Friday Render! Muscles

It is complete! This is the result of a lot of hard work and time. Along with this is the entire human body of muscles textured, I just decided to have some fun with it. I will be adding this to my website and reel soon. Thanks to all who have followed me throughout this entire process.

Also we are picking up the Monthly Draw again. If you are interested shoot me a message at josephtsiemsen@gmail.com and I will let you know how to get involved! This months topic is Draw your imaginary friend from childhood or draw your best friend. Doodle on folks!

Meditech

My internship at Meditech ends tomorrow. :( On the plus side they put me in charge of Meditechs weekly "Friday Render" where they come up with some sort of awesome or fun render and post it on facebook. My time here has been really grand and I am walking away with tons of experience and good friends and colleagues. Keep your eyes open for tomorrows update which will include the final render and a video. Other great news is I did some low poly bones for an App that Meditech developed and it was a part of the presentation that Meditech had at a convention. It was a huge hit, tons of people were wanting to install it and take it home to show people! Sometime soon it will be released on both the Apple and Android markets for free! It allows you to rotate around and zoom in/out of a 3D scene of a surgical procedure on an arm, pretty cool stuff. The plan is to have it so that it can work on anything between a number of smart phones and of course the Ipad. I will post links as soon as I get them.

Post Graduation and Summer to do list

Well I'm all graduated and I'm getting married in July and it's exciting times for me. So I made a few goals for myself for the summer professionally and for fun. Made up a list of games I've collected and haven't played or finished over the course of my college career. This list will probably take more than the summer to complete. Professionally goal number one is to get a job. I've also come up with a couple of pieces I want to add to my portfolio. It is bothering me that I have no characters in my portfolio right now so I'm working on one now (wip updates to start soon!) Then once that is over I plan on doing a kick-ass model of an old Aston Martin car. Not sure if I'm going to complete that one by the time Summer is over but hopefully!

Facial Muscles wip

I have now moved on to the head. It's offering new challenges that the leg muscles did not. It's fun to work on a different part of the body, seeing and learning about new things.

Meditech Internship and Muscles WIP

I've recently started a really awesome internship at Meditech in Saint Paul. Right now for the most part they have me texturing the entire musculatory system of the human body. It's a lot of work but it's really fun too. Here is a few screen grabs of my WIP

Monthly Draw 2

The next monthly draw topic has been provided by Kayla, the keeper of the "My Cartoon Brain Log" blog.

Those participating already have it but for those of you interested in joining send me a message and we will get you set up, but for now let this inspire you.

the topic is: Create your own super hero, and then create a movie poster or 1st issue comic book cover for your hero.

Have fun! Draw!

Self Portraits

I haven't done self portraits in probably 2 years, but I needed some for my portfolio "about Joe" page so here are 2 of them.

1st Montly Draw! Topic: Island

So it's the last day it can go up but it was good to have this little extra project to work on while I did finals to help me recharge. It's amazing what doing something for fun can do for the moral. So here it is, my island.

More Covered Bridge WIP

Feel like I finally made a breakthrough in progress on this project. Making it seem like it's able to become a finished centerpiece of my portfolio.

Covered Bridge WIP

So I'm working on texturing my covered bridge model. Earlier I ran into some serious Gamma correction issues and after I followed a tutorial on how to fix it I ended up with this.

I did manage to fix it and this is the work in progress beauty render I did earlier today.

Monthly Draw Community!

So the monthly draw community is starting to come together! The idea behind it is this. It's an online artist community where all involved draw/paint/sculpt/model their own version of an idea or concept provided by a different member of the community each month. To become apart of this super fun community do a few things

1. Have a blog

2. go to http://averagejoesketches.blogspot.com/ and follow my blog and all the other blogs under the "Monthly Draw! list located on the right hand side of my blog

3. Send me a message providing a link to the blog that you will be posting your monthly draw to, and an email address so I can contact everyone with announcements and such

also feel free to post anything else that you'd like to share with all the other people participating! I want to go to peoples blogs to see not only their contribution to the monthly draw but other stuff too!

Ethics Notes

I have a tendency to doodle rather than take notes during a lecture. These are my "notes" from today's ethics class

Thursday, February 9, 2012

A call to artists!

I'm going to be putting together an online artist community. Each member would follow the other members. The goal would be for everyone to post a new drawing every month. Everyone's drawing will be their own version of the same idea/concept which will be provided by a different member of the community every month. The order will be randomly generated once we get a good group of people going. That we we can all enjoy each other's work and challenge each other to do something fun at least once a month.

Hope to see you apart of this!

Facial Expressions

Facial expressions are a lot of fun to draw. I just started attending Ai's Sketch Jam again for the first time in a long time and stretching out my sketching muscles again. For this sketch jam everyone took their turn posing facial expressions for everyone else to draw. Each drawing was 1 and 1/2 minutes.
